There
are four characters in the story of Zoe’s BBQ. Zoe originally came to
Chengdu with her husband Nick when he began working for an airline company.
In
her new free time. Zoe took up teaching English to local Chengdu residents.
It was here that she met the youthful and ambitious Sean and Peter. Zoe was
much more than an English teacher though. Not only did Zoe teach English
free of charge, but she enjoyed spending time with her students outside of
the classroom. Zoe loved taking students to the park, to the bowling alley,
out to sample cuisine from around the world, or gathering in the kitchen to
cook dishes from back home. Zoe truly came to feel a special bond with her
Chinese friends. It is no surprise that Peter and Sean refer to Zoe as their
‘American Mother’. A few years after they met, Peter made the trip over to
the United States to stay with Zoe . After Zoe’s husband
Nick decided it was time to return to the United States, the couple found
themselves still quite attached to their friends in Chengdu. Zoe and
Nick still visit their Chinese
friends and Chinese children in Chengdu every summer.
A few years later Peter, who originally hails from Chongqing, and Sean, from
right here in Chengdu, found themselves with the opportunity to open a
restaurant. Does it come as any surprise that they chose an American style
restaurant . it is Sean’s explanation as to why
they chose BBQ as their featured cuisine which is most admirable, “Barbecue
is a classic way to bring people together, and that is what we really
wanted.” Clearly they became attached to some aspects of American culture. Zoe’s BBQ is more than just the story
of friends. Zoe’s BBQ is the result of friends from across the globe sharing
their respective cultures with each other.
Peter and Sean welcome you to Chengdu and Zoe’s BBQ. They hope you have time
to stop by for some BBQ and friendly chatter as they always enjoy an
opportunity to practice their English. If you are too busy, but still
craving some BBQ, just call 8559-3345
